Overall
The development of this e-portfolio has definitely been an educational experience.
While I wasn't too enthusiastic about it in the beginning, I can now see the benefit
of having one, and I'm anxious to stock mine up with my information.
Foundation
When I began working on this e-portfolio, I had to first decide on which
development language I wanted to create it in. While I could have chosen to
use Dreamweaver and develop it in HTML, I instead opted for what I believe to be
a more dynamic approach. I instead developed it in ASP.NET 2.0, which is a
web application development language from Microsoft. My main reasons for doing
this are that I'm more familiar with ASP than anything else, and in the future I
may consider making it all database-driven, which is relatively easy with ASP.NET.
Design
My goal from the beginning has been to maintain a clean design with
a color scheme that reflects my preferred style and is pleasing to the eyes. I've spent a substantial amount
of time designing the page layouts and site navigation which I want to be
as intuitive as possible. One of the more complex
parts of the portfolio is the Professional Development section because it is split
up into a listing of courses
for the different educational institutions I have attended. I feel that this complexity is necessary because the majority
of my past work and achievements will be located there. My goal is to make it easy for me
to input additional data while
still keeping everything organized and presentable.
Implementation
In addition to spending careful time on the design of this portfolio, I have also spent
a large amount of time making it available to everyone. I originally tried
hosting it from
home, but I've since moved it to a professional web host for their
service and reliability. I chose
EasyCGI.com
because they offer a wide feature set with competitive prices. So far I have been
very pleased with their service.
Content
Most of the content on this e-portfolio will be in the form of linked
projects with descriptions and the corresponding AECT standards that they satisfy. To view these
projects, first navigate to a course for an institution within the Professional
Development section. As of now, only Texas A&M
- Texarkana contains courses
with project listings, but in the future I intend
to add on to the other institutions as well.
For each project, I have included a reflection within its description or within
an attached document.
